What do you see-Obstacles or Opportunities?

Pile of rocks

When you look at this huge pile of rocks – What do you see?

Some people will see Obstacles and some will see Opportunities.  It all depends on how you  look at things doesn’t it?

If this looks like an insurmountable task to you, maybe you are one of the hundreds of people who see things as obstacles.  If you see it as a large pile of opportunities you may be an optimist.  According to one definition in the dictionary:  An optimist is someone who always sees the bright side of any situation — a trait that can be either encouraging or annoying, depending on your frame of mind. Winston Churchill once said, “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

Another dictionary version says: An optimistic person thinks the best possible thing will happen, and hopes for it even if it’s not likely. Someone who’s a tad too confident this way is also sometimes called optimistic.

Studies are showing that in the long run, having a positive outlook on life will make you happier, healthier, and wealthier while raising your quality of life. According to Jacob Sokol, of Sensophy.com

The way I see it, being optimistic means trusting that good will come of the situation. A lot of people wish they were more optimistic, but they’ll tell you that they just weren’t born that way. Well maybe they weren’t, but ultimately, science says that we have the ability to change the way that we think.

World renowned positive psychologist Martin Seligman says “Habits of thinking need not be forever. One of the most significant findings in psychology in the last twenty years is that individuals can choose the way they think.” (Check out his book Learned Optimism for more amazingness on the topic.)

That’s right! You read that correctly. Seligman is saying that you have the ability to choose how you think. We no longer need to be stuck in a death spiral of turbulently fatal autopilot thoughts. With time, and continuous diligent awareness, you can reprogram your mind to think more empowering thoughts.

So however you look at this pile of rocks will determine what you think about them and what you could ultimately do with them.

rock path
Here is a wonderful example of what one very creative person did with a “bunch of rocks.”  This is a path made with stones, and although it certainly took some forethought and planning, look at what an awesome project someone came up with- basically using a bunch of rocks!  I think it is just amazing and beautiful what you can do when you apply some creativity and ingenuity, ending up with a fabulous creative project like this.

So whether you see “Obstacles” or “Opportunities” in the huge pile of rocks, at least this will give you a few things to think about and possibly a project to create on you own. Perhaps you could simplify it a little – or a lot- and just make one or two spirals.  Even a circle of stones could be an enhancement to a flower garden or a point of attraction, a place of “raising your vibration” in your own back yard.

Nature rocks…

wild sideTake a walk on the WILD side with Nature…

Because Nature Rocks big time…

There just isn’t anything like a long walk in nature to  set things straight, or to calm things down to a place of grounding.  Just getting away from the boring daily routine and busy schedule allows one to look at things in a broader perspective, hopefully a calmer, more peaceful perspective.  Noticing how the light shines directly on the back part of a newly formed fern.  Backlighting it beautifully and separating it from the rest of the forest greens. Just noticing it’s beauty and splendor has a calming effect, bringing one to that of peacefulness  and  gratitude.  Nothing else is demanding your attention as you stroll quietly down the path to a deeper connection with what lies ahead.  More greenery, more ferns, even an occasional little squirrel scampering up and down a nearby fir tree.

All is well in the confines and the continuation of nature.  Everything growing and living it’s best life in harmony with everything else growing next to it.  Prolific sprigs of grass, alder trees, ferns, and evergreen blackberry starts all intertwined in the depths of a wilderness trail.  Nature rocks, that is for sure.

Nature can also raise your vibration level to a higher degree.  If you are able to connect with any of the beautiful surrounding greenery or other living things in the nearby vicinity, they can pull your vibration or feelings up to a new level.  Look carefully at each living thing.  Establish your connection with them feeling empowerment encompassing your being, allowing the very essence of each living plant to speak to you in it’s own way.  It’s beauty lifting you higher as you allow it to fill your heart and mind, disregarding any stray thought that feels restrictive to you.  The sweet smell of the evergreen trees filling your senses with familiar scents, while you walk wistfully through their branches.  Deeper into the forest you wander feeling lighter and freer, your spirits ready to soar to new heights.  Forgetting all the stress of the past few days, and the schedule you left far behind earlier today.

Another benefit of walking in nature is the mere benefit of healthy walking.  Exercise of any kind can be healthy to the body, as long as it’s approved by your primary care provider.  Walking at a leisurely pace may not be as effective for raising your heart rate, or for the benefit of loosing weight, but will have an increased benefit of enjoyment and increasing your feelings of peace and harmony.

Walking and enjoying nature has so many benefits – take a walk on the WILD side and see what you can find.  Maybe nature will ROCK your world too!

Become one with the waves…

Become one with the waves…

Become one with the waves
Find Peace and Harmony as you become one with the waves…
And how would you do this?
First it would be helpful if you liked to go to the beach.  If you were naturally drawn to stand by the ocean and watch the waves as they mysteriously wash in and out at the urging of the tides.  That would predispose the fact that you already feel the power of the waves.  That you are one of the many thousands of people that enjoy the cool refreshing mist of the ocean spray on a warm and sunny day.  You see that the rocks are wet with mist from the wind blown water, splashing rhythmically against them.  You hear the sound of the waves splashing purposely  back and forth as they cover and uncover the rocks beneath your feet encompassing the surrounding area, touching lightly on your bare feet, brushing softly against your skin.

You are now immersed with the feelings of being at the beach and becoming one with the peace and harmony of the waves.  As you surrender yourself to all of the local sounds, sights, aromas, and feelings, you become in tune with them.  Deeper and deeper you immerse yourself into the surroundings, one breath at a time.  Breathing deeply now, you let your eyes slowly come to closure, only hearing, smelling, and feeling your surroundings.  Soon you find yourself peaceful and relaxed.  Still breathing in, and exhaling out, you allow the waves to become a part of you.  Breathing them in, breathing them out.  Feeling them calm you and bring you into a harmonious part of your inner self.  You are now one with the waves.  You are a part of them and they are a part of you.

While you are in this contemplative, meditative state you may even want to sing or chant a favorite spiritual song to bring you even closer to nature.

The song “Mother Earth” by Navajo musician Sharon Burch is one that you might want to try.  The translation comes from Navajo language translator Krystle Seschillie on her blog Navajo Now. The song reminds us that we are a part of a larger cosmic system — whether you call that God, Mother Earth or something else entirely.

Mother Earth by Sharon Burch

Heiyee’ everything brings happiness.
Heiyee’ everything brings happiness.
Heineiyaa.

I am part of Mother Earth.
Mother Earth’s feet are my feet.
Mother Earth’s legs are my legs.
Mother Earth’s strength is my strength.
Mother Earth’s arms are my arms.
Mother Earth’s has a vision, I have a vision.

I am part of Mother Earth.
Mother Earth’s feet are my feet.
Mother Earth’s legs are my legs.
Mother Earth’s strength is my strength.
Mother Earth’s arms are my arms.
Mother Earth’s consciousness is my consciousness.
