Feeling judgement…

Feeling judgement…

When you go out into the woods and

you look at trees, you see all these

different trees.  And some of them are

bent, and some of them are straight,

and some of them are evergreens, and

some of them are whatever.  And you

look at the tree and you allow it.  You

see why it is the way it is.  You sort of

understand that it didn’t get enough

light, and so it turned that way.  And

you don’t get all emotional about it.

You just allow it.  You appreciate the

tree.  The minute you get near

humans, you loose all that.  And you

are constantly saying “You’re too this,

or I’m too this.”  That judging mind

comes in.  And so I practice turning

people into trees.  Which  means

appreciating them just the way they

~Ram Dass

As we interact with people of coarse we “Judge” them in a number of ways.

It is our sense of survival to analyze the words and demeanor of anything in our presence whether it is a tree or a person or an animal or what ever it may be.

We are continuously judging and comparing things.

Seeing whether they are safe or if they may want to harm us in some way.

Not only are the raging animals a danger to us, but we know that at times people can also be vicious and deceitful as well.

What we need to practice, however, is being able to accept and allow people to be themselves without being affected by them.

We must somehow be able to hold ourselves apart from the rage of an angry person, and allow them to vent themselves without bothering us.

And that is why trees are so refreshing to us.  They don’t argue or press their opinion on anyone.

They are so very passive and beautiful and they don’t present any kind of danger in themselves.

They are serene and refreshing while being varied enough to maintain interest.

People are also varied but not as safe.

They all have their opinions and express them often without your desire or consent.

So if we turn them into trees in our mind,  we are likely to get a few surprises from them as they express their own desires in our lives.

Knowing and loving ourselves is the only answer.

Allowing others to be themselves without being affected by their distractions, is a practice we must continue.

Having a willingness to just be without having control  over anything else.

Being one with source energy.

Letting it flow to you and through you without worrying about anyone else.
